Thumbelina
Born in a blossom…

Thumbelina
Born in a blossom,
smaller than a spoon—
barleycorn planted
by the light of the moon.
Wooed by a toad
on behalf of his son—
but fish and butterfly
helped her run.
Floating here,
nearly frozen there—
she met an ailing swallow
and provided care.
Wooed by a mouse
on behalf of a mole—
but who wants to spend
ever after in a hole?
Swallow returned!
Away she flew!
Followed the sun
to a love so true!
New love,
new name,
new wings,
new life…
Some girls
have all the fun
(and strife).
